Alongside an introduction to the underpinning principles of both electrical and mechanical engineering, this program aims to help you develop proficiency in basic maths, science and applied knowledge. Throughout the year, you will learn highly sought-after design skills by using industry standard graphic software. We aim to provide a broad understanding of this exciting industry, giving students the skills needed to start their career. Students will develop practical skills in the machine workshop, programming skills in microcomputer systems, cognitive skills in engineering principles and engineering mathematics. Group work, research skills, report writing will develop as the course progresses. This course aims to provide students with the basic knowledge required for progression in the engineering industry. Students are able to gain an insight into real-life engineering problems, working on projects that are relevant to their day-to-day work.

COURSE MODULE

Mathematical Principles for Engineers 

We aim to supply you with all the maths knowledge you need to be a competent engineer. We support your learning of algebra, trigonometry and calculus specifically for practice, enabling you to independently solve engineering problems. You will apply these mathematical principles to logic controllers and computer programming throughout the module.

Design and Engineering Graphics 

Using one of the top software programmes in the engineering industry, you will develop expertise in the application of design and simulation graphics. You benefit from access to premium suites for design processes and 3D modelling, such as 3D printers and PTC Creo.

Mechanical Engineering Science 

You will learn the basic knowledge of mechanical engineering science, design and operation of mechanical systems. You’ll explore their importance within industry and how they’re applied creatively to a variety of routine engineering problems. You’ll also learn the core principles of mechanical engineering, including statics, dynamics and fluidity.

Electrical and Electronic Science 

In this module, you’ll study the fundamental concepts and physical principles that underpin electrical and electronic engineering. You’ll consider their role in solving real-world problems, and explore key topics such as high-current power, voltage and low-current electronics. Finally, you’ll understand the science of combining components, building functioning circuits and ensuring performing results.
